Case Studies - Warwickshire County Cricket Club

As a long established client of Powernet, Warwickshire County Cricket Club returned once more to Powernet to refresh their Edgbaston brand (launched for the start of the 2004 season) in time for the start of the 2005 cricket season.

The sixth incarnation of the WCCC site maintains the separation of different aspects of events and activities at the team's Birmingham facilities into a number of sites sitting under an umbrella of Edgbaston - Experience Excellence - all of which are accessible from the hub page www.edgbaston.com.

As well as streamlining the main cricket club site's home page (which can also be accessed directly at www.thebears.co.uk) and refreshing the appearance of the suite of sites in time for the start of play in the new season, new elements have to been added to the site to ensure Bears' supporters have quicker access to a greater wealth of information than ever before.

Both the main umbrella Hub page and the Bears' site Home Page now feature an interactive calendar, allowing site visitors to click through directly to details of forthcoming events, all of which can be maintained by club staff to make the latest information is always available and up to date.

Another new feature gives supporters a much more personal insight into life at Edgbaston. Linked from the club's own Home Page, Trotty's Diary will keep regular site visitors up to date with week by week unique views of cricketing life from the player's perspective.

Elsewhere, the more eagle-eyed cricket fan will no doubt approve of the improvements made to the statistical reporting, where individual player's performance in Championship, totesport League, Twenty20 cup and other matches can now be analysed separately.

The perennially popular Bears chat facility and discussion forum has also been upgraded to improve security issues, and to enable posters to the forum to create their own personal profiles.

Naturally, a wealth of existing functionality and information has also been retained:

  • the popular newsletter, keeping fans up to date with all the latest events at Edgbaston (which will also be receiving a make-over for the season)
  • an online subscription options facility enables subscribers to specify which types of information they wish to receive
  • online ticket ordering links, and up-to-date matches and ticket information
  • a comprehensive online news service

The site also retains the high degree of administrability that Powernet has provided the club, which has proved key to their ability to respond to events and supporter's interests, enabling them to manage and update the site's content readily and easily. No wonder they have been ready to retain our services in assisting them to further development an already highly successful site. In return, we wish them luck in the coming season and in the battle to retain the County Championship trophy they captured in the 2004 season.
